Ebook Covers

You may have written the greatest ebook of all time, you also may know exactly where your going to sell your ebook. But did you think about your ebook covers?.

Like it or not even though we are writing ebooks that most of the time will only be downloaded, its still also a great idea to think about giving your ebooks a great looking cover. Why?, well ebook covers can really aid you in your pursuit of a sale for many reasons, but here are the most important two.

1) First Impressions Count

How many times have you heard that title??, lots right?. First impressions count really is a true expression, and not only for when you meet people but for pretty much every part of your life.

Think about some food that you really dislike, you hate it because you tried it and it was awful right?. But the reason you may have tried it was because your very first impression was either its smell, or the way it looked on the plate, the awful taste came after your first impression right.

Unfortunately if the smell was awful too you may have shied away from it altogether and gone for another plate of food. Anyway let me relate this back to our ebook covers. If you are presented with a screen showing 5 ebooks on the same subject, 3 are just plain white covers with black text for their title, and the other two are in full color with a well designed title that pops off the screen, what ebooks will you tent to notice first?.

Naturally our eyes gravitate toward color, so immediately the 3 blank ebook covers are faded out as a natural response, this now just leaves the 2 color versions left to choose from right. The other 3 books could have had a much better content for that reader, but because of the lack of any detail in the cover those books just look cheap and unprofessional.

Think about the books you have bought, are any of them blank??.

2) Expectations And Planning For Later

Regardless of if your book is an electronic download or not, when people think about books they are thinking about a physical object with a cover and all. Even if it is just printed out of their printers you are still writing a book, it still has pages and chapters and even graphics inside it, so why not give your readers what they expect and add a cover to your book?.

I’ve read a lot of ebooks and have even bigger stacks piled up in a cabinet, the ones that stand out for me are the ebooks with a first page cover, not only because that author took time to design one, but if I threw them all in the air what ones would stand out the most when im searching on the floor?;).

Remember people gravitate more toward colors!!.

One last point about ebook covers, why just keep your book as an ebook?. Their are so many options available to use to turn our books into real physical options for people today, so I say if we take the time on a good cover now we can save a ton of time later on if we decide to publish our ebook as a real hardcover version.
